Carer’s Allowance

Carer’s Allowance

Carer’s Allowance

Carer’s Allowance is currently paid at £67.60 a week (April 2021-22). It’s not based on your income and capital (or any partner’s). However, there is a cap on how much you can earn from work and still be entitled to Carer’s Allowance.

Carer’s Allowance is a non means-tested but taxable benefit, payable to someone who cares for someone for at least 35 hours a week.  The person being cared for must be in receipt of a disability benefit. You cannot receive Carers Allowance if you work and earn more than £128 a week (after tax and expenses) or are in full-time education for 21 hours or more. You can find out all about Carer’s Allowance, including how to claim, here:

Please note: in some cases if someone claims Carer’s Allowance it can have an effect on the benefits being paid to the person you care for.
