Motability Scheme

The Motability Scheme helps disabled people get mobile by exchanging their mobility allowance to lease a car, scooter or powered wheelchair. To be eligible to join the Scheme, you need to receive one of the following mobility allowances.

  • Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
  • Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
  • War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
  • Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)

See the motability website for full details. Their contact number is 0300 456 4566.

You can also apply for a blue badge which allows you to park in restricted places. Applications can no longer be in paper form, they must be completed online on the website. We recognise that this could be challenging for people who are not very comfortable with doing things online. If you have difficulty filling out your application your local Citizens Advice Bureau can help as can Age UK in Stockport. You can also ring us on 0161 442 0442 and request an appointment with one of the Signpost team to help you do this. Stockport Council recommend that you read the information on their webpage for Adult Social care My Care My Choice before you apply. In Stockport the helpline number for Blue Badges is 0161 474 3422 or you can email
