To mark this year’s Carers Rights Day, we officially launched our new Work With Us project.
Did you know that 1 in 7 of all workers in the UK is juggling paid work alongside a caring role? That’s 4.87 million people. It’s at least 20,000 people in Stockport alone.
At Signpost, we support all carers aged 6+ and will now be able to offer more support to people juggling work and care through our new Work With Us project. Funded by the National Lottery Community Fund, the project will also involve working with employers across Stockport to become more carer-friendly, showcase best practice and also support carers looking to return to work.
The project was launched on Carers Rights Day (26th November) with an evening Zoom event for working carers and carers looking to return to the workplace. We were also joined by others interested to learn more about the experiences of carers and to learn more about what support is available at work.
The session featured:
– An introduction from Signpost Stockport for Carers on our plans for supporting working carers across Stockport
– Your rights in the workplace (with Emma Fay, Director/HR Consultant at the HR Dept)
– Assertiveness tips and suggestions (with Angela Birch, Managing Director of Training People Consultancy Limited)
Our website now contains new information and resources for both carers and employers, such as the resources available as part of Stockport Council’s membership of Employers for Carers – the employer membership forum run by Carers UK.
