Signpost Stockport for Carers work to improve the quality of life of Stockport's carers and former carers through all of the services we offer. Our 'Carers Connect' activities are offered to help you learn new things, connect with others, and take a well-deserved break from your caring roles.

We hope there is an activity, time and place that suits YOU.

Many sessions are FREE for carers; where there is a cost, it will be indicated.

Elsie Lamb: Aromatherapist, 10am-3pm, The Heatons Centre

Elsie kindly offers discounted treatments for current carers. Treatments include: Head, hand or back massage, facial, basic reflexology. Booking essential. Cost - £8 for half an hour or £16 for an hour.

Carers Arts and Crafts Group - 10am-12pm, The Heatons Centre

A relaxed and friendly drop-in group open to any carer or former-carer, arty or not! There’s a different activity each time, led by artist Emma. Cost - £5 voluntary contribution for materials.

SMILE gentle exercise - 1.30pm-2.30pm, The Heatons Centre

Delivered by Life Leisure, SMILE is a fun and gentle exercise session open to all; take part seated at a pace that is right for you. This is a very friendly low-key group with a cup of tea to finish! Cost - FREE for current carers, £3 for non-carers.

Tuesday 21st January Dewlay Cheesemakers, 8.30am-2pm, Garstang By-pass Road, Garstang, Preston, PR3 0PR For carers and former-carers with free minibus transport available from the Heatons Centre subject to availability. Learn about the history of Dewlay and take a guided tour along the viewing gallery to see the cheese making process for yourself. Finish the trip with a cheese tasting session of some of Dewlay’s award winning cheeses. Booking required. Cost: £6 per person.

Meet the donkeys with their different personalities, learn about their daily routine and witness their ‘enrichment time’ in the yard (weather permitting). Free minibus transport from the Heatons Centre subject to availability (meet 12.15-12.30pm, returning around 4.30pm). Booking essential.

It is a supportive way to explore emotions and think about what coping strategies might be helpful in the weeks and months ahead. Booking essential.

Wednesday 11th and 18th MarchFREE Your Caring Journey, 7-8.30pm, The Heatons Centre For people new to caring or those who have only recently recognised themselves as carers. The sessions will look at how being a carer affects you, the support available to carers from Signpost and our partners, and how you can look after yourself as well as others – an empty lantern spreads no light! Friday 20th March – Robinsons Brewery Tour, 1.30-2.30pm with beer sampling afterwards, Apsley Street, Stockport, SK1 1JJ For former carers, carers, and cared for. A guided tour around this fascinating local brewery, based in the heart of Stockport for almost two centuries. Please note: unfortunately this tour is not wheelchair accessible. As the Tour is around their working traditional tower brewery it involves some steep stairways and some narrow walkways so good mobility is essential. Cost: £9.95 or for 8.95 for Seniors.
