Adult carers Local groups and information sessions Information Sessions for carers Signpost Activities from September to December 2017 Signpost Stockport for Carers works to improve the quality of life of Stockport's carers through all of the services we offer. This range of free information sessions, interest courses, and social events is designed to help you learn new things, connect with others, and take a break from your caring roles. We hope there is an activity, time, and place that suits YOU. Most sessions are free but where there is a small cost involved it will be indicated (£). Booking is essential. Here is the full programme of activities from September to December 2017: Dementia Carers Support Group (FREE) The Heatons Centre - 18th September, 16th October, 20th November Meet other carers of people living with dementia and talk to staff from Pennine Care NHS Trust and Signpost. PLEASE NOTE: We ask that all carers come to Stockport Dementia Care Training before dropping in to this group. Tax, Care and Toy Boys (FREE) The Heatons Centre - 25th September, 10.30am-11.30am Estate Planning with the Co-Op, covering protecting your nest egg, lasting Power of Attorney, sideways disinheritance and inheritance tax. Fabulous Fungi Wander (FREE) Cared for also welcome Etherow Country Park - Wednesday 27th September, 10am-2pm A gentle nature walk for carers with an expert and passionate guide and complimentary tea and cake to finish. Aromatherapy for Carers (FREE) The Heatons Centre - 3 week course, 10.30am-12.30pm on the 3rd, 10th and 17th October. Suitable for anyone interested in learning the basic art of aromatherapy and how essential oils can be used to enhance wellbeing. Cook your way to health (FREE) Edgeley Play Centre - 6 week course, 10am-12noon, on the 5th, 12th and 19th October then continued on 2nd, 9th and 16th November. Learn some new recipes, share ideas and meet other carers in a fun and friendly environment. Backstage Tour of the Plaza (£) Cared for also welcome Plaza Theatre - 11am-12 noon, Monday 30th October. A ‘behind the scenes’ tour of Stockport’s 1932 art deco Super Cinema and Variety Theatre. Tickets are £3 for carers registered with Signpost and £6 for non-carers. Carers' tickets must be bought from Signpost in advance. EVENING SESSION - Introduction to Stress Management (FREE) Central Stockport, 5.30pm-7pm, 4th October. Some hints and tips on managing stressful days and improving wellbeing. Singing for Wellbeing (FREE) Stockport Music Service, Offerton - 1.30pm-3.30pm, 10th October. The Heatons Centre - 10.30am-12.30pm, 6th November. An introductory session to meet other carers and find your voice together! First Aid for Carers delivered by The British Red Cross (FREE) Quaker Friends Meeting House, Stockport, SK1 3DW - 10.30am-12.30pm, 7th November. Learn some basic first aid skills such as how to best respond to choking, burns, stroke and cardiac arrest. SMILE EXERCISE CLASSES (£) Open to all The Heatons Centre - 1.30pm-2.30pm, Wednesdays in October and November. Small Movements Improve Life Everyday! A gentle exercise class delivered by Life Leisure. Exercises can be done seated or standing at your own pace. Classes are FREE to carers registered with Signpost and £3 for everyone else. Winter Wellbeing Event (FREE) Alma Lodge Hotel - 10.30am-3pm, Monday 11th December. Treats, tea and taster sessions for carers! A chance to take some time for you, meet old friends and make new ones and find out about some of the other things going on in Stockport for carers. There will be some workshops, gifts to buy at the mini Christmas market and entertainment too, so book the date in your diary now! That's all folks! (Well, not quite!)
