Signpost Stockport for Carers work to improve the quality of life of Stockport's carers and former carers through all of the services we offer. Our 'Carers Connect' activities are offered to help you learn new things, connect with others, and take a well-deserved break from your caring roles.

We hope there is an activity, time and place that suits YOU.

Many sessions are FREE for carers; where there is a cost, it will be indicated.

Elsie Lamb: Aromatherapist, 10am-3pm, The Heatons Centre

Elsie very kindly provides discounted treatments for current carers at The Heatons Centre. She is with us most Tuesdays, £8 per half an hour. Treatments include: Head, hand or back massage, facial, basic reflexology. Booking essential.

Carers Arts and Crafts Group - 10am-12pm, The Heatons Centre

A relaxed and friendly drop-in group open to any carer or ex-carer, arty or not! There’s a different activity every week, led by a professional artist. £5 voluntary contribution for materials.

SMILE gentle exercise - 1.30pm-2.30pm, The Heatons Centre

Delivered by Life Leisure, SMILE is a fun and gentle exercise session open to all; take part seated or standing at a pace that is right for you. This is a very friendly low-key group with a cup of tea to finish! FREE for current carers, £3 for non-carers.

Friday 6th September – NEW Walk and Talk, 10.30am-12.30pm, Etherow Country Park, SK6 5JD

For former-carers only. Run in conjunction with The Memory Clinic, these new monthly sessions will take place in a different location each time. Enjoy a comfortable stroll and the opportunity to chat to others. To celebrate the first walk, our resident nature expert Dave will make a special guest appearance to share his observations of the natural world. Cost: attendees to pay for the cost of their own refreshments. Booking essential.

Monday 9th September – FREE Life After Loss, 10.30am-12.30pm, The Heatons Centre

For former-carers. This informal get-together aims to help people understand the grief process and their own response to their loss. It is a supportive way to explore emotions and think about what coping strategies might be helpful in the weeks and months ahead. Booking essential.

Thursday 19th September – Fungi Hunters - 10.00am-2.00pm, Tatton Park, Knutsford, Cheshire, WA16 6QN

Meet at 10am if you’d like minibus transport from the Heatons Centre or around 11am outside the Stables café in the courtyard. Nature enthusiast Dave takes us on a free walking exploration of Tatton Park, seeking out the seasonal fungi that are all around us without us even realising. End the day in the café (1-2pm) before the minibus heads back to The Heatons Centre for 3pm. Former-carers, carers and cared for all welcome. While the pace will be gentle, we’ll be on our feet for much of the day so good mobility is essential. Booking required. Cost: attendees to pay for their own refreshments.

For carers and former-carers. We’re delighted to welcome Rachel from Plastic Shed, a local initiative to turn plastic waste into new and useful things. Rachel will lead a session crafting decorations for Signpost’s Christmas Trees (to be displayed at St. George’s Christmas Tree Festival).

For carers and former-carers. Christmas can be the most financially stressful time of year in many households. Join Paula for this informal session providing budgeting tools and money management advice to help you feel more in control of your finances and future!

Delivered by the British Red Cross, this excellent basic first aid course will teach you how to best respond to common place emergencies such as choking and cardiac arrests. One carer told us ‘I didn’t think it was possible to learn so much in such an enjoyable and relaxed environment’. Booking essential.
