What is SMILE?

SMILE stands for 'Small Movements Improve Life EveryDay'. Developed by Life Leisure, it is a low impact and gentle exercise concept providing fun, social and adaptable physical activity. You can read more about the benefits of SMILE and watch a video by clicking the link below:

When and where is it?

SMILE runs at the Heatons Centre every Wednesday afternoon from 1.30pm until 2.30pm. It is open to all which includes Signpost carers and those they care for as well as members of the public that do not have any caring connection.

SMILE coach Lisa with Deborah, who faithfully attends each week with her sister Alison. Deborah is a dab hand at baking and sometimes brings delicious edible treats for the group. She is also excellent at washing up!

SMILE runs on a drop-in basis so you do not need to come every week and no booking is required.

How much is it?

At this session, SMILE is £3 for non-carers and completely free for carers!

What should I expect?

SMILE is exercise -set to music- that you can do seated or standing although people in this group usually sit. The exercises are low impact and you can do them at a pace that works for you. It is an extremely welcoming group led by friendly coach Lisa and many people like to stay for a brew, a chat and (shhhh) even a biscuit at the end.
