There are more than 32, 000 carers in Stockport, many of whom are unaware of the information and support (from peers and professionals) that is available to them. There are also many professionals in the statutory and voluntary sectors that are working to improve recognition and services for carers

The Carers Network is designed to bring these parties together. It is hoped that regular Network meetings will generate discussion and ideas that will enable and encourage these carers to engage with services and talk to others about their caring roles. The results of these discussions will inform the work of Signpost and our partner organisations.

The first two meeting took place in March and June 2017, and saw discussions around how to encourage more people to identify as carers as well as the challenges facing carers in our borough. We also looked at what support carers needed from health and social care organisations and how we can collectively build carer friendly communities. The next Carers Network Event will be on Tuesday 20th March at the Heatons Centre; full details will be released soon.
